If you are unsure on when to see a GP, you don’t need to wait until something feels seriously wrong. If you’re experiencing any of the concerns below, it may be a good time to book an appointment:
01
Missed or painful periods
Changes to your cycle, including missed, irregular or painful periods, can have many causes. Your GP can help assess what may be contributing and whether further testing is needed.

Ongoing or recurring pelvic pain, pressure or discomfort should be discussed with a GP, particularly if it is new, worsening or affecting your day-to-day life.

Breast changes

Women’s Health FAQs
Are Medicare rebates available for women’s health consultations?
Medicare rebates are available for many women’s health consultations with your GP if you are a valid Medicare cardholder. Please call or ask about fees and available rebates at the time of booking or on the day of your appointment.
When should I get a cervical screening test?
In Australia cervical screening is recommended every 5 years for eligible women between the ages of 25 and 74 who have had normal results in the past. Speak to your GP about when you need a cervical screening and they can perform one during your appointment.
Can I see a female doctor for women’s health issues in Narangba?
Yes, we have skilled female doctors you can book an appointment with Narangba. Many of our patients choose to see a female doctor when it comes to women’s health concerns.
How do I manage menopause symptoms?
Some symptoms of menopause can be managed by making adjustments to your daily routine, medications and individualised care. Speak to your GP about your symptoms and the best ways to manage them.
Where can I get Implanon insertion in Brisbane?
Implanon insertion and removal services are available at our women’s health clinic in Narangba. Implanon is a minor procedure that can be done in-clinic by one of our experienced GPs.
What is the difference between pregnancy care with a GP vs an obstetrician in Australia?
Your GP can provide shared antenatal care with you which includes looking after your care throughout your pregnancy with regular checkups. Your GP can refer you to either a hospital or obstetrician at any time should you or they think you would benefit from a specialist leading your care. Obstetricians generally provide care for mothers who have higher-risk pregnancies.
How often should I have a women’s health check-up?
We recommend women visit their GP for a women’s health examination yearly. If you have certain health issues, are monitoring your health for changes or have ongoing conditions you may wish to visit your GP more frequently.
Do I need an appointment for women’s health services?
All women’s health consultations in Narangba require a booking. We offer same-day appointments for women’s health clinics where possible. We also offer extended hours and weekend appointments.
What should I bring to my appointment?
If possible, bring a list of current medications or supplements you are taking, any previous medical records you have and previous test results. Please also consider writing down any symptoms you are experiencing prior to your appointment so you don’t forget to mention them to your GP.
