Same Day Commercial Drivers Medical Certificates

Commercial driver medicals are routinely completed by our doctors at Narangba Station Health Centre for drivers who operate, or intend to operate, vehicles for work or commercial purposes. This may include drivers of MR, HR, HC or MC vehicles, buses, rideshare and personalised transport services.

Using our on-site medical and treatment room facilities, our doctors complete all commercial driver medical assessments in line with the relevant fitness-to-drive standards and can also undertake specialised checks based on the type of commercial driving you do.

Furthermore, we can also assist with Fitness to Drive Reports where these are required for licensing, employment or medical review purposes.

To obtain your commercial drivers medical certificate, please bring the relevant forms and supporting documentation with you to your appointment and book your assessment online or by calling reception on (07) 3521 5523.

Commercial Drivers Medical Assessments In Brisbane North

Who we can help?

We provide commercial medical assessments and certificates for a range of roles, including:

  • Bus & Coach Drivers
  • Truck & Heavy Goods Drivers
  • Dangerous Goods Drivers
  • Taxi Drivers
  • Rideshare & Uber Drivers
  • Private Vehicle Drivers

What to expect?

Our commercial driver medical assessments are completed in-house with your GP using our facilities. Each assessment is thorough, efficient and compliant with the relevant fitness-to-drive requirements, helping you get back on the road with the correct documentation.

Most assessments take approximately 20-30 minutes and may include the following checks:

1. Health Review

We conduct a comprehensive review of your overall health, focusing on chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and arthritis that might affect your driving abilities.

2. Vision Check

Our vision test ensures that your eyesight meets the required standards for driving. This includes tests for visual acuity, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

3. Mobility Check

We assess your physical ability to operate a vehicle, including your range of motion, strength, and coordination. This ensures you can comfortably and safely control your vehicle.

4. Cognitive Evaluation

This involves a series of tests to assess your cognitive functions, including memory and reaction time. It’s crucial for drivers to process information and make quick decisions.

Fees & Medicare

For both new and existing patients, commercial driving medical assessments and certificates cost $220 (inc GST) excluding any treatment room fees or additional tests.

If you’re applying to drive with Uber, please visit our Uber Medical Assessments page for more specific information.

Medicare Rebates:

As commercial driver medicals are completed for work purposes, they are generally not eligible for Medicare rebates. That said, we will provide you with a tax invoice for your records, and some employers may also reimburse the cost of the assessment.

How It Works?

To complete your commercial drivers medical assessment, please follow the steps below:

  • Step 1: Book an appointment with one of our friendly doctors.
  • Step 2: Print a copy of the F3712 and F3195 commercial drivers form.
  • Step 3: Print a copy of the F2978 (New) or F2979 (Renewals) form.
  • Step 3: On both forms, complete Part 1 prior to your appointment.
  • Step 4: Read all forms carefully prior to your appointment.
  • Step 5: Attend your appointment 10 minutes before schedule.
  • Step 6: Your doctor will then perform a series of assessments as required by law.

After completing the F3195 Private and Commercial Vehicle Driver’s Health Assessment, your doctor will then complete the Medical Certificate for Motor Vehicle Driver (form F3712) for you to present to the Department of Transport and Main Roads. In addition to the F3712 and F3195 forms, you will also need to complete your Driver Authorisation Form.

It is recommended that you complete the health questionnaire prior to attending your appointment and if you need to wear glasses, contact lenses or hearing aids when driving, bring these with you to the assessment.

Please Note: If you do not have access to a printer or have issues with downloading the medical form, please arrive 15-20 minutes early to your appointment and our reception team will be able to provide you with a copy for you to complete prior to your booking.

Commercial Driving FAQs

Do you still have questions about commcerical driving medicals in Queensland? No problem! Here are the most commonly asked questions our GP’s receive.

Yes, we accept GP referrals for commercial driving medical assessments. However, referrals are not required and both new and existing patients can book directly.

On average, your driving medical for Uber will take between 20-30 minutes to complete. While we strive to ensure that your appointment runs on time, if you have not completed part one of your certificate or are unable to arrive on time, the length of time it takes to complete your medical assessment may increase.

Unfortunately, Medicare does not cover the cost of medical assessments required by private employers. These assessments are considered occupational health services, which fall outside of Medicare's coverage. However, some private health insurance plans might offer partial reimbursement for such expenses and so it's worthwhile consulting with your health fund.

To complete your commercial driving medical, you will need the following forms from the Department of Transport and Main Roads:

Depending on whether you are a new driver or renewing your drivers authorisation will depend on whether you need the F2978 or F2979 form. You will not need both, just one or the other depending on your situation.

Your doctor will explain the concern and what happens next. Depending on the issue, they may request further information, arrange additional testing, recommend specialist review or, if applicable, complete your medical certificate with relevant conditions or restrictions.

Both same-day appointments and same-day certificates are available depending on doctor availability. Please book online or call reception on (07) 3521 5523 and let the team know you require a commercial driver medical so the correct appointment type can be arranged.

This depends on your licence or driver authorisation, age, medical history and the expiry date stated on your medical certificate. In Queensland, rideshare drivers under 75 must renew their commercial medical certificate every five years, while drivers aged 75 and older must renew annually.
