Common STD Checks
Our doctors can organise testing for a range of sexually transmitted infections. Here’s a little more information about each type of sexually transmitted disease or infection:
Chlamydia
Chlamydia is a bacterial infection caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. It mainly affects the genital tract but can also infect the throat or rectum. Because it’s caused by bacteria, it does not stay in the body permanently once cleared.
Gonorrhoea
Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It commonly involves the reproductive tract, but can also affect the rectum, throat, or eyes. Like other bacterial STIs, it does not become a lifelong infection once treated.
Syphilis
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
Hepatitis B & C
Hepatitis B & C are viruses that primarily affect the liver. They can be spread through sexual contact or blood. Both viruses can lead to long-lasting infections, with some people clearing hepatitis B naturally, while hepatitis C is more likely to become chronic without intervention.
Herpes simplex virus (HSV)
Trichomoniasis
Trichomoniasis is caused by a small parasite called Trichomonas vaginalis. It’s a very common STI worldwide. Unlike viral infections, it does not stay in the body once treated.

- Swabs (genital, throat, or rectal)
- Blood tests

Some sexual health services may be bulk billed or have no out-of-pocket cost for eligible patients, while others may incur out-of-pocket fees. For example, some procedures such as contraceptive insertions or additional treatments may not be fully covered.
Standard fees apply for consultations with our GPs. Our friendly team will always inform you of any out-of-pocket costs and Medicare rebates that apply before we proceed with any treatment or services. This way, you have a clear understanding of the costs involved.

To make an appointment, please call reception or use our online booking system via the button below. You can also visit our contact page to see further details about our location and directions.
Bookings are available from as early as 7AM on weekdays and Saturday. We are also open Sunday afternoon and late evening on Tuesday and Thursday until 8:30PM.
Can’t find us? – We are situated across the road from Narangba Train Station next to the Narangba Village shopping complex. Look for signs for Narangba Health Centre and IGA.
