How It Works?
If you are an existing patient, please follow the steps below:
Step 1: Firstly, please try to book an appointment online or by calling reception on (07) 3521 5523. A consultation is the most accurate way to assess your health. If there are no doctor appointments available, you can place a request for a medical certificate via our receptionist and it will be added to admin tasks for the doctors to get back to you, if the doctor knows you well or an ongoing matter they may simply do the medical certificate and arrange for another appointment at a later time.
Step 2: If you cannot book an appointment or get through to our receptionist and you are an existing patient, please complete the form below and let us know your issues are and whether you have a future appointment booked. The doctor will review your request and if appropriate your medical certificate can be issued without an immediate face-to-face consultation. Please note this is at sole discretion of the doctor, please also note doctor may call you on the same day based on the nature and urgency of the request, your information will also be stored in your patient file which is helpful for retrospective medical certificates
Step 3: Payment for the medical certificate: An invoice will be created once the certificates ( these will be emailed to your email on file) are completed and sent to you via Automat as a text message.
Medical Certificates (For Existing Patients Only)
Important: Our online medical certificates service is available only to existing patients of the medical practice who have had a face-to-face consultation with a doctor at clinic within the last 12 months.
At Narangba Station Health Centre, we understand that sometimes you may need a medical certificate for work, even when you are unable to get a same-day appointment to see one of our doctors at the clinic. If you are an existing patient who has had a face-to-face consultation at the clinic within the last 12 months, we may be able to help you while ensuring your care remains safe, accurate and consistent.
Why Request a Medical Certificate from Your Regular GP?
While it might be tempting to opt for a cheap medical certificate online, many of these lack proper documentation, medical accuracy, and professional accountability. It’s always best to have any medical certificates issued by your regular GP to ensure that your GP is informed about your current health and to ensure accuracy. By understanding your medical history, this also means that your GP can provide a certificate that accurately reflects your health circumstances and be aware of anything that could be potentially more serious. This is particularly important for certificates related to work, study, or ongoing health concerns.
In addition, having your certificate issued by your GP also helps keep your medical record complete. This continuity is valuable for future consultations, referrals, or when managing chronic conditions. Consistency in care matters. When all of your medical information is managed by one provider, there is less chance of important details being missed and you will receive safer, more reliable care.
Frequently Asked Questions
Still have questions about workplace medical certificates? No problem! Here are the most commonly asked questions our GP’s receive from our patients.
What is a workplace medical certificate?
A workplace medical certificate is an official document from a qualified GP stating that you were unfit for work due to illness or injury for a specific period. It’s often required by employers for personal or sick leave.
Can I get a medical certificate for just one day off work?
Yes, absolutely. Even if you were unwell for just a single day, a GP can issue a certificate provided there’s a valid medical reason. Some employers may request it for absences of any length.
Do I need to see the doctor in person to get a certificate?
In most cases, yes, you will need to see a doctor, particularly if it's your first visit or if a physical examination is required. However, telehealth appointments may be an option for existing patients with simple or minor concerns. Please call reception on (07) 3521 5523 if you are unsure.
What if I’m not sick but need time off for mental health or stress?
Mental health matters too. Our GPs can issue certificates for stress leave or related concerns if it's deemed medically necessary. You will receive the same privacy protections as you would for physical illness.
How long does it take to get a medical certificate?
In-person appointments usually take 10–15 minutes, and certificates are issued on the spot in most cases. If you are booking a telehealth appointment, it can be just as quick, however, we aim to issue all qualifying medical certificates on the same day.
Will the certificate include details of my illness?
No. By default, certificates only state that you were unfit for work and the dates of absence. The nature of your condition remains confidential, unless you specifically request otherwise.
